My time at the studio taught me so much about modelling and I really felt like I was following my dream. The photographer was really good and professional and I looked great. We tried a number of different poses and my photos came out great. They really know about male modelling, and I felt like I was in good hands. I chose the one's I liked the most and they put them together for me in a portfolio. Now I have something to send to modelling agencies. Thw whole experience was great.

My names James, I modelled briefly as a child but recently got back into it whilst being at university. In the modelling industry it’s important to have a portfolio when applying for agencies or freelance work, as most modelling jobs and casting calls want to see professional images (it’s nothing personal they just want to see how well you come across in front of the camera).

 After a test shoot in 2014 with another company I purchased a portfolio, unfortunately I didn’t have much luck and didn’t manage to get any work from it. This isn’t a nice feeling as a portfolio is not always cheap and to not get any work from it feels like rejection. BUT I didn’t give up there, I contacted Kube studios early in 2015, I spoke to great guy called James Scott who told me I had a unique look and could do well in the industry if I put the work in. He booked me in for a shoot at Kube London on the 10/3/15, I remember being very nervous for it as I hadn’t been in front of the camera for a while but James was always there to reassure, give advice and boost my confidence.

MY DAY AT KUBE LONDON

When arriving for the shoot at Kube London I wasn’t really sure what to expect. All the workers there were extremely kind and welcoming. When I got to do the shoot I had a great photographer, he went through every outfit with me and what would look best for my look. He also taught me new poses in front of the camera; overall the day was a learning experience for myself. After the shoot I was told I had a good look for the industry and was offered a portfolio. After previously spending money on a portfolio I did not want to spend loads of money, the gentleman I spoke to understood this and eventually we worked out a fair deal for about 15-20 images, which is needed for a portfolio. As well as this Kube gave me a list of agencies to try as well as tips on how to make it as a freelance model (I prefer to freelance model because of my busy time schedule but I’m not against working for an agency).

AFTER THE SHOOT

To be completely honest I thought I’d never hear from Kube Studios again, I WAS SO WRONG, James Scott is an absolute gem of a guy, he recommended websites, agencies and helped me promote myself as a freelance model through social media. James has always told me I’ve had a great look and could do well in the industry but he also gave me the best advice by telling me to work hard and be ready to be told no sometimes. I’ve had my fair few of rejections as well as success (Which I’ll go into shortly) but it’s important to not take it personally if someone says no, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t model it just means you may not be what they’re looking for.

Anyway onto the success that I’ve had in the last year and a bit, I’ve applied for many jobs and as I said above I’ve been told I’m not what people are looking for but I am lucky enough to have been on some very good jobs (some have even paid pretty well too)!!! I have been in 2 music videos, 3 TV commercials, 1 modelling competition, 4 fashion shows and a feature film. I’ve just recently landed an acting role as a main character as well. There have been other casting calls which I have missed because life has got in the way and other ones I’ve applied and haven’t got the part but it’s been the best experience, I’ve met some cool people and some friends I’ll have for life.

FINALLY

First of all I want to say a massive thank you to everyone at Kube for making all the success I’ve had in the industry so far possible. Without them I don’t know where I would be, also a massive thanks to James Scott who has become a friend, I’m always able to go to him for advice and ask questions and he’s always answered me and shown a genuine interest in my ambitions. I’m still in regular contact with James and I would definitely recommend Kube studios to anyone. Just remember that you have to put the work in to be successful, Kube can be there to advise, support and answer any questions but it’s about getting out there and applying for roles, don’t expect it everything to just fall into your lap, that’s the best advice I can give.

He was so helpful and so nice and friendly to talk to at the time my daughter vena had her appointment for her shoot he has been a great friend to even before Venas shoot and gave us the best advice. We are so glad he made sure that a famous well known model was there to meet with Vena her name was Sarah and she was lovely she really looked after her. "I stumbled across an advert online looking for models, just attaching a picture and sending a few basic details. I was then contacted by James who was very professional and extremely helpful, who talked me through how to set up an appointment with Kube Studios at one of their studios, how to prepare myself for modelling work (eg email, twitter) and general tips and advice on styles, requirements etc. He kept in touch with me regularly to see how i was progressing with my preperation and was always available for advice.

The studio itself was a fantastic experience and the genuine friendliness of the staff there immediately put me and my nerves at ease....everyone was very helpful, polite and and obviously very good at their job. It was a girls dream day out getting their hair done make up done photos taken outfits picked for them-honestly a lot of fun and the photography was excellent and great value for money. Within 3 hours of sending out my portfolio I received my first calll back from an agency and James was also quick to phone to congratulate and offer more support and advice about how to progress and advertise myself. The experience as a whole has been more than i could have imagined and i am so pleased that i took the time to give it a go rather than wondering what if"

Hi Mike, I hope you're well.

I really wanted to take the time first of all the let you know what an amazing day and experience I had with my shoot from start to end. The first person that I spoke to was Lewis Luxe, he was the gentleman that initially booked me in for my shoot and he was nothing less that professional, complementing and genuine with me on the phone. Then it got to the day of my shoot and I was understandably extremely anxious and excited! Through out the whole day I was treated like nothing but royalty, I was literally treated like a queen! Every single staff member was lovely, they were all comforting and encouraging me to give my best at my shoot.

In all honesty, I went to this shoot with zero intentions of purchasing any photos, I simply wanted the experience. When it got to the end of the day and I saw the phots that were produced, I simply could not believe it was myself looking back at me. My pictures were absolutely STUNNING!!!!!! I'm extremely hard to impress/satisfy at the best of times, but there was no way at all that I could leave the White Room Studio without purchasing my portfolio!!

I have since very recently spoken to James Scott with regards to my modelling career and how I can help to make myself known whilst I'm still in the process of purchasing my portfolio. I genuinely cannot put into words how much of a help and inspiration James was. All I did was add him on Twitter and he immediately inboxed me to find out what I wanted to do and where I wanted to get to THEN gives me his personal phone number so he could call to give me more help and advice!!! Since speaking with James and taking on his amazing advice, things have done nothing but improve for me. I now have followers on Twitter and emails from modelling agencies which is something I never thought would happen!!!

James really is a massive asset to Kube Studios, I've never met anyone more helpful and genuine towards me and the fact that he was willing to do it off of his own back, in his own personal time and for no form of reward except for a simple thank you from me in return, speaks absolute volumes about James as an individal.

Hi Mike. Yes the shoot went well and since then things have really got exciting. I’m really glad I chose Kube Studios. The portfolio we made was accepted by an agency and I’ve even had my first proper, paid (!) modelling job! It wasn’t quite what I was after, but apparently “I’ve got what it takes” to be a watch model!? I never even knew that was a thing. So if you see a familiar looking wrist on a billboard somewhere or in a magazine, you’ll know why! I’ll give you more details another day, I’m in a bit of a rush this evening. Before I went to Kube Studios in Birmingham I didn't really know what I wanted in terms of photos. I've been told by a lot of people that I have chisseled features and might have a chance of being a model though so I did some local research and decided on Kube Studios. My session was reasonably short (I dont know how long they're meant to be!) but saying that I came away with a dozen great photos that seem to cover everything I need for a proper modelling portfolio. I'd recommend Kube to anyone else whos unsure and is wanting to make a start towards modeling.

Hi yes feedback from the session is no probs! Firstly thanks for making me feel comfortable in the studio, my mum says i don't look nervous at all in the photos but i was feeling it at the time a bit! I wish i had brought another change of clothes, maybe something smart that I could also use for job applications etc. I'm not sure about modeling any more but ill be able to hold onto these photos as a memento of this time in my life. Modelling Agency Advice

For a young person especially, the modelling business can be very hard to understand. There will be many people you meet who say they can make you famous, or get you work, but the truth is that the number of big decision makers in the business is relatively small. Many modelling agencies will make themselves look better than they really are and knowing how to spot the real opportunities and not waste your time is crucial. 

When you walk into an agency office you should have your eyes wide open. Do they look active - how many staff are there - what are they doing? Are there photos of their models clearly displayed on the walls? Look out for awards or certificates on display and read them. It's easy to get caught into their sales pitch unless you are one step ahead.

Ask questions! 

Their answers might tell you more than you thought. For example, if you were to ask - what modelling jobs have you assigned today, and to whom? Their answer will let you know if they are actively assigning jobs or just selling a dream.

Exclusive versus Non-Exclusive Contracts

In short, exclusive contracts mean you can't be with any other agency at the same time, and will normally be for a set period of 12 months. If they are slow to assign jobs or not genuine in any way, you will find this very constrictive and ultimately waste your time. It wouldn't be bad advice to say 'never sign an exclusive contract' unless it is with one of the top ten global agencies. Non-exclusive contracts mean that you can work for yourself, or another agency at the same time. This is a much better option for most people in Kube Studios' experience.

Kube Studios: Casting Preparation Tips

Located in the heart of London’s West End, Birmingham’s Digbeth, and Manchester’s Northern Quarter, Kube Studios have over 30 staff dedicated to helping aspiring models break into the industry.

Your first modelling casting will be an exciting, daunting experience but here are some tips to help you prepare for success.

When giving yourself a rosy glow you'll want to avoid going over the top. Always start using blush two finger widths away from your nose and apply it only to the apples of your cheeks. This way it's near impossible to over do it.

Curly haired? Never brush the curls out, simply loosen them with your fingers to give added lift. Some curly-haired women habitually straighten their hair but a casting might be looking for some natural curls for a new product promotion. Modelling isn't always about fashion, almost every product made nowadays has a marketing plan involving models.

If you're the type who sweats when they're nervous, take some blotting paper with you. It will quickly remove the sweat without interfering too much with your make up.

Juggling Teen Modelling and Education

As a teen model, Kube Studios understands that juggling modelling commitments with your education is hard. To make it easier, here are some tips to help you pass those all-important exams. Exam is another name of stress which comes almost after every three months. For some people it comes regularly but you cannot ignore this stress. You have to deal with it before you get the taste of your success.

Sometimes nutrition slides you down. Taking part in teen modelling, you may have good eating habits. However, many teens have the habit of eating burgers, cappuccino everyday but before exam this are the diet that causes you trouble. Some of you stay in hostel so you need to prepare your food and you don’t want to waste any time so you order food from outside. This junk food may save your time before exam but it may spoil your hard work while you are just about to sit for your exam.

Some diet supplements are very good but they are incomparable with the real food. For example take orange, which is a best vitamin c food but orange not only contains vitamin c, it also contains fiber and beta carotene which are really good to maintain your body strength. So before exam eat lots of fruits like oranges, apples, bananas and carrot sticks. This will also make your teen modelling photos at Kube Studios look better.

Not having meals for long will make you weak and you will not be able to focus upon your studies. You may think that you are saving lots of time and studying a lot but after few hours you will feel that you are wasting much more time sitting in front of your book as you cannot focus on the topic. So always have meals at regular intervals.

If you have heavy meals then it will make you lazy and more importantly when you are under stress this meal will not digest properly and will make you sick. So it is better to eat less at regular intervals.

Always have your breakfast because after a long night of having nothing you should take your breakfast. Breakfast will help you to gather mental strength and you will not feel drowsy while giving your exam. Follow Kube Studios on twitter!

Welcome to Kube Studios, the London based photography studio. We specialize in modelling portfolio photo shoots and have been established over 10 years. We are experts in child modelling.

In child modelling, it is important for the child to have a sunny personality, lots of big smiles and be excited, enthusiastic and have a zest for life. An attractive child that hates the studio, pouts and spends the whole time trying to escape is not going to make for a successful shoot. For child modelling you have to take direction and be professional at all times.

Going to new places, meeting new people and working with professional photographers is great but there is also the expense and effort of getting your child to these auditions and modelling jobs. There is great sacrifice to make and effort to put in in order to succeed. However, pursuing child modelling simply for monetary reasons is more likely to lead to pressure, and therefore unnecessary stress so have fun with it. Kube Studios can bring out the best in your child, and help them shine!


There is a very fast turnover of child models as they move into the next age bracket, and models of all ages are needed – from new born to baby to toddler and so on. But that doesn’t mean it’ll be easy. There is a lot of competition for child modelling work. That’s not to discourage you – just keep in mind that rejection is an inevitable part of this industry and be prepared to keep going and not take it personally. Kube Studios is not a modelling agency.
